The new MacBook was shown to last for 13 hours and 18 minutes when set to cycle websites in Safari, but only bailing at 9 hours and 45 minutes, meaning Apple-loving Chrome users will be reaching for their USB Type-C chargers far sooner than intrepid Safari users. Not Just MacBook 2015.

Google has announced in an official blog post that its Chrome browser no longer supports a number of older Mac OS X versions. Google initially prepared users a few months ago that a move away from these platforms would be coming by the end of this year. Today is that day, and Google Chrome will no longer get software feature or security updates on the following Mac platforms:

  1. Macbook Pro 2011 or newer, Macbook Air 2012 or newer; OS X 10.9 or later; Macbook Pro 2010, Macbook Air 2011; OS X 10.9 or later; Chrome OS. All 2014 models and later, 2013 Haswell-based models, and Samsung Chromebook 2; Not applicable. Results will vary depending on OS distribution, driver support, and desktop environment.
  2. Hello, I already have the Lenstag App on my Ipad. Now, I was trying to download the Lenstag Rescue Extension on my Macbook Air, but when I try to do it, I keep having the request to download the Chrome browser, which I already have, and see no manner of download the Lenstag extension. Thank you for your attention.
  3. As The Mac Observer’s John Martellaro wrote back in 2015, Keystone is Google’s automatic software update for its apps. There are two negative aspects about the updater: There are two negative.
  4. By backing up your MacBook Air with Time Machine and performing a factory reset of your MacBook Air, your machine will feel like you just unboxed it for the first time. With macOS Mojave available, it’s the perfect time to get your computer back up-to-date and running well.

  • Mac OS X 10.6 – “Snow Leopard”
  • Mac OS X 10.7 – “Lion”
  • Mac OS X 10.8 – “Mountain Lion”

On the Mac side, it’s essentially everything before Apple moved to its California-inspired version names (or anything with a cat name). The company also announced that it’ll be ending support for Windows versions XP and Vista, so it’s not just older Mac users who will no longer get updates. The reason behind the end in support is simple: Apple and Microsoft don’t actively support those platforms any more, and so Chrome will no longer actively support them either. This doesn’t mean Chrome will no longer work, it just means it won’t get any more security or software updates on machines running these versions of the OSes.

If you’re still running one of the aforementioned software versions, Google encourages you to upgrade to a more modern OS, since there are now security risks (however small) attached to using them. If you’re not sure which version of Mac OS X you’re running, you can find out by simply clicking the Apple logo in your top toolbar, and clicking ‘About this Mac’.
